Steel Building Design to EC3

Eurocodes are ready - are you?

BS5950 has been withdrawn. Although there will be a transition period some clients and insurers will demand the use of BS EN 1993 following this withdrawal. Awareness of the changes, timely preparation and adoption may be critical to the success of your business.

As the experts in steel design, the SCI have prepared this course to introduce experienced steel designers to the Eurocode provisions for steel design. The course focuses on orthodox construction, covering the primary design issues for practicing engineers. The course will deliver a sense of reassurance that design to EC3 will become straightforward in time, and indeed has advantages in some areas.

This course will explain:

  • Loading and load combinations
  • Frame stability
  • Brittle fracture
  • Member resistance (axial load and lateral torsional buckling)
  • Connection design

This course will equip any engineer with:

  • An overview of the Eurocode suite design document, and the critical importance of the National Annex
  • A good understanding of the important ULS and SLS load combinations
  • A good understanding of the key parts of BS EN 1993-1-1
  • A set of numerical examples covering frame stability, axial resistance, LTB and combined axial load and bending
  • A good understanding of connection design to BS EN 1993-1-8

During the course the following books will be used for reference:

  • The Blue Book
  • Concise Eurocodes
  • Worked Examples for Students (a valuable guide for all steel designers)
  • Take advantage of our exclusive delegate offer to purchase our ‘Essential Eurocode Bundle’.

Delegates attending this course can buy this set of Publications at a substantial discount.

  • SCI members price: £75
  • Non-members price: £130 (normally £160)
